I have an Athearn F-7 that will be my next DCC Sound conversion project
I'll be installing a Tsunami TSU 1000
The features include supporting a mars light But I can't find any thing in the instructions that say
which wire to use and how to turn it on and off
All I can find in the install instructions is what's listed below
If you use Functions 5 and 6 for lighting effects:
decoder’s BROWN wire. Wire the other bulb lead to the decoder’s BLUE
wire
4. To wire the Function 6 output, connect one end of the bulb to the
decoder’s GREEN wire. Wire the other bulb lead to the decoder’s BLUE
wire.

davidmbedard Yup...thats how you hook it up. Are you going to use the TSU-1000 or TSU-AT1000? The AT is a board replacement and is easier to hook up lights where are the 1000 is a wrapped decoder that will require resistors and such. I would go with the board replacement as it is cheaper and easier to work with. David B

You're pretty funny David !
So which one is it the green wire or the brown
I didn't know about the AT board I bought the TSU 1000 with the EMD sound
It depends on if you want to use function output 5 or function output 6. One is the green wire, one is the brown wire. What you need to do is remember which one you used because when you program the actual effect you have to say "do the Mars light effect on function output 5 or 6" If you program it to do a Mars light on output 6 and you hooked your bulb to output 5, nothing will happen.

Thanks Randy
Since I'm over 60 I'll write it down as long as I remember where I wrote it
I should be ok
Do you have to wire in a resistor if you use 16 volt grain of weat bulbs ?
Well I went ahead and hooked up the brown wire with out a resistor after reading the
Soundtraxx install manual and finding no mention of using resistors with 12 to 16 volt bulbs
only when using 1.5 volt bulbs or LEDs
And after using Decoder Pro to activate the Mars light it just sat there and flashed it's little
heart out
I did however replace the 16 volt bulb with a 14 volt to brighten it up a bit
Here's a short clip
