When I run my locos with the 750 Tsunmai, the pump operation increases as I move the loco simulating the air pressure needs to be built up. When the loco comes to a stop, the pump action slows down. Usually, it is the first sound I hear.

The noise I call the firebox door, sounds like a metal scraping sound to me.

Thanks for the information. I know it's not the reverser switching from forward to reverse and I know its not the fireman shovelling coal as they are sounds I recognize. I've looked at the Tsunami manuals but its hard to adjust a CV when you don't know what sound you're dealing with!

As mentioned it's a pump or something pulsing every 4 to 5 seconds while the loco sits absolutely still or idle without touching any function buttons.

 I will check CV113.

Thanks Again!

Yes.  Auto mute after so many minutes of inactivity.  (CV113)  Higher numbers mean longer wait times till quiet.  0 = always on.  So try a value of 10.  (about 2.5 seconds)

I use the TSU decoders and I believe the sound is the firebox door, air pump, coal being shoveled, etc. Here is a link to the SoundTraxx manuals. Put the site in your Favorites folder for future reference and to help others. You can download the manuals to your computer.

As I recall when you start up the steam Tsunami it comes up with a clank that is supposed to be the sound of I think the reverse gear being set in place(??) and it does it when you reverse direction too. It and the pumps etc. all have CV's that you can set to O or to a low number so they're less noisy. I know that "clank" every time I changed direction or started up was kinda annoying, so I turned the sound down considerably.

I don't remember which CV's they used but you can check the Soundtraxx website for a complete listing of the CV's and an explanation of the sounds it controls. I believe there is a CV that controls overall "background sound volume" or something similar that you can turn down too.

I have a TSU-1000 (Tsunami) decoder in medium sized Mikado 2-8-2. When I first start my command station to start a session the Steam loco at idle can be heard doing something?  Not being a steam guru is this a pump or compressor I hear that cuts in and out every 4 or 5 seconds at idle?  Is their a way of muting this sound without using F8 each time?  What CV can I adjust to have this only come on when I want to have a session with the 2-8-2 or when it starts to move ahead?  When I'm working on my bench (with the program track) or running a session just with diesels, it gets annoying having to input the loco's address and muting (F8) it each time.Sigh
