Decoder ID in Decoder Pro
Posted by samgolden on Friday, April 24, 2009 8:31 PM

Hi all:  I just received my LocoBuffer-USB and hooked it up to my Digitrax DCS 100.  It took a little while of fiddling to get the computer to talk to it.  After I tried it out, (on locos that were already programed) and got them to communicate together with each other I put a loco on the programing track and had it read the Decoder.  The first loco it Identified the decoder as Digitrax , but it highlighted about half of the list of digitrax decoders.  I already new which one it was, so selected it, and ran through the process of programing it.  Saved the profile, and started the next loco.

This time it didn't ID the decoder, it came up with some letters and said it didn't know what it was.  I put the decoder make and model in, it was a TCS  A6X and Decoder Pro said it didn't still didn't know what it was.  I looked at the list of TCS Decoders and it wasn't listed.  I read somewhere that the decoder list is updated every so often, but don't remember where I saw it.  This decoder is about 3 years old so it is not a new release.  What to do?   It is listed on the TCS web site.

Thanks in advance for any replys

TCS A6X is listed under thr drop down list for both "TCS X Series decoders". It's listed again and again in "TCS X w/bemf".

That is in version 2.1.4 of Decoder Pro which is at least a year old.

Hi:  I have version 2.2 and it is not in it.  I tried going to the Jmri site listed above, but couldn't find where to down load a newer version, only a link to a update/upgrade program, and downloaded it, but I can't seem to get it to install.  It does do something but I don't notice any difference in the program.

That definition should be in version 2.2 but it wouldn't hurt to have the latest version Latest production version is 2.4. I just downloaded and installed it and the definition is there as posted above.

The yahoo link you used is for the JMRI support group. You won't find JMRI downloads there. Just a wealth of information and people willing to help.

For downloads, start at the JMRI main page:  http://www.decoderpro.com/
