So you're saying that if I buy a Digitrax decorder with harness I could solder it in then on down the line take out the decoder but still have the harnes and add in a sound decoder from say Lokosound. I think thoughs have a 8/9 pin on them.

Why fool around trying to solder in an 8 pin harness when you can get many different types of decoders with a 9 pin JST harness that can be soldered in.  Many decoders from TCS, Digitrax, Lenz, and NCE come with a solder-in JST harness.

Is there a way I could solder in a 8 pin harness in to an Athearn BB instead of soldering in a whole decoder? What I mean is can I solder in just the 8 pin inter face so that way if I need to change the decoder I jsut have to take it off the 8 pin interface instead of un solderign the whole thing.
