Sound Decoder for Proto 2000 GP7?
Posted by OntarioTodd on Sunday, March 8, 2009 1:07 PM

I just came back from a model train flea market and picked up a sweet running Proto 2K GP7 for a song. I figure with the money I saved from buying new I might splurge and go with DCC sound. My internet search came up empty with a plug and play decoder for this loco (with sound). Does anyone make one? If not, which brand/model do you recommend? Is there room for a speaker?

Thanks

 Todd

I have a few of these nice little animals and you are right, sweet machines! Soundtrax made a plug and play for these (provided its the newer of the two versions I have). They are no longer made but they surface now and again on the auction sites or old stock from hobby shops. I have had pretty darn good results with them and if you find tem they are in the 50-60 dollar range typically. The Loksound are supposed to blow these out of the water, but I just have not broken down just yet to spend 110 dollars for a sound decoder. It will happen, all the "in the know" guys on here tout them with serious praise and they look small enough for a narrow hooded diesel. Good luck!
