DCC and DC cabs

I have a Prodigy DCC that I recieved as gift about 4 years ago. I have purchased 3 DCC equipped engines. The question is this. I heard you can use a DC cabs AC terminal to us as a power booster. Is this true. I've got my benchwork 98% complete and now I want to use both DCC and DC engines. send me and email at [e-mail]. I've used both before using Atlas controllers and selectors, I just need a little more insight to not getting rid of anything and keeping costs at a minimum.

The short answer is yes.  The long answer is that it depends on the exact DCC unit.   You need to get the Prodigy User's Manual out and read it.  It will say what can be used for input power.  

My MRC Command-2000 (generation before the Prodigy) will take anything from 12V-16V in either AC or DC.

 Edit - I looked up the Prodgy Advanced User Manual on-line  it says:

Specifications and Features

Input: 15-16 volts AC or 16-17 volts DC, 3.5 Amps
