NIce improvement from the previous web page. Very cool how you can click on links to hear what the sound schemes on the diesel and steam Tsunamis. IMHO, they did a very nice job on the Nathan P5a horn recording. Brings back memories as that's the horn that Amtrak's first F40s were equipped with. The SDP40fs received them also after reported maintenance problems with the Leslie SL4-Ts..

I remember a couple of years ago they were complaining on the Yahoo group that they couldn't possibly put sound samples on their site because people would steal them and use them in other progrmmable decoders. Glad to see they finally came to their senses.

Randy,
I'm just a DCC sound-newb, but I wonder if that's because now it is so easy to obtain sound schemes? Soundtraxx is no longer on top of the "Sound" food chain for the smaller scales. By-way-of the appropriate programmer, modelers that own LokSound, QSI-rev., and Digitrax sound decoders are now able to upload and edit cataloged sounds or upload and edit sounds from their own recordings. I'm still smiling with delight at my Gen. SD45-2's custom edited Leslie RS5T-RR0 horn recording in its LokSound unit. It's been a win-win for us as a whole.
Also, in listening to the Soundtraxx Tsunami sound samples, imho, they do "compressed". I don't know if that's deliberate or due to the web's limitations. But in any case, it is good that Soundtraxx is providing samples for potential customers to hear.
This was a little bit back a ways, but the argument was that someone would take the sample sounds and use those in one of the programmable decoders (At the time, only ESU). They even claimed peopel were already doign this! I'd sure like to see how you could get any sort of decent sound load into a decoder from those sound samples, even if they were very high quality. At least with Loksound and Digitrax you need multiple sound files, sometimes more than oen for each effect, liek the horn/whistle, tehre's a beginning, a middle, and an end, all seperate sound files. Plus the bell, blow off, dynamo, and there are multiple pieces to the chuffs as well. Sure, you could chop up that sample, but the end results would be HORRIBLE and pointless.
At least they came to their senses and put the samples up, so now you can hear what you are getting. I still wouldn't get one - the only steam loco I would own is a T-1 Northern, and the Tsunami has the correct whistle and the correct chuffs - unfortunately not in the same decoder! And since you can't reprogram the sounds...
