 No, that will not make the LED any brighter or spread the light more effectively.  What you will need are multiple super-bright LEDs.  The biggest problem you're going to encounter is LED color.  If you don't mind having your cars look like they have fluorescent lighting, www.SuperBrightLEDs.com sells a light bar with multiple white LEDs on it that is rated for 12 Volts.

The also sell 360 degree visiblity LED's as well.

Thanks for the info, guys. Actually, if I recall, some of the passenger cars I've ridden in did have flouescent lighting.

 Look for the flexible LED strips in the LED section of the web site.  I suggest the warm white color.

I read a post a while back that said LEDs weren't suitable for passenger car lighting because the light was too directional. Is that because the LED ends are rounded, and act as a lens? If I used a dremel or piece of sandpaper to flaten the end of the LED, would the light disburse better? Anybody tried that?
