Analog Locos on DCC powered tracks

 That will in short order burn out the smoke generator, and eventurally the headlight. Leave it standing on the DCC track and next it will be the motor that smokes.

 I would advise unhooking the smoke unit when you put in a decoder. They typically draw more power than you can hook to a decoder's function output.

The smoke and lights are getting the equivalent of full 12 volts dc voltage on a DCC powered layout. The motor is also getting the same DCC pulses and tend to hum or buzz. Better to convert them to DCC with decoders.

Search Google for dc on dcc. Get some DCC education first.

 Install decoders to get full control of those engines. That's why you have DCC, right? The ability to run an analog engine on DCC power is a gimmick to promote DCC sales.

There's always a risk running DC locos on DCC track. Motors can overheat, permanent damage to components can be done. Never leave an analog engine sitting on DCC track. Run it or remove it from powered track.

Hello Everyone,

Just so you know, I'm brand new at this forum stuff. I just introduced myself to a bachmann dcc starter set. My problem is that when I put my bachmann dc locos on the dcc powered track, the options (smoke and lights) are cook'in full blast all the time. I fear burning them up. Is the only option to convert them to dcc? Or are there other solutions? - Thanks
