Switching Tracks
Posted by Freight Hauler on Monday, January 5, 2009 12:37 PM

Hello Im new to Model Rail Roading. I just purchased The Digital Commander by Bachmann with two Digital Locomotives. It should arrive in a few days (cant wait). The track has a manual turnout left. Can the turnout be Controlled with the controller (I prefer this one) or do I have to purchase Bachmanns tracks # 5 and # 6 or use Bachmanns turn out control boxes and wire it manually to get the train to switch tracks.

Hopefully this can be done using the controller. Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately no, the E-Z Command DCC system does not control accessory decoders If the turnout in the set is manual, that means it has no motorizing unit of any sort and could not be controleld by ANY DCC system. The Bachmann #5 and #6 DCC turnouts can be controlled by a DCC system but the E-Z Command does not support that function. The Dynamis does. You can get regular Bachmann remote turnouts and control those via the included control buttons, but you need a source  of AC to operate them. Which you won't have with the E-Z Command.

While it is true that the E-Z Command can not control accessory decoder addresses, the Bachmann DCC turnouts can be configured to work off of a locomotive address so that they can be controlled from the E-Z command controller.  I haven't used them, but someone has posted on one of these forums his experiences with using them with a E-Z command controller.

Well, sure glad the Bachmann web site for the product mentions that.....NOT. Once again I actually did research before making a reply, misled by lack of information.

Does nothing to change my opinion that this oversimplification ends up making it MORE complicated for the newbie in the long run. See also the E-Z DCC manual. According to that, it does F0-F8. Others have said it does F0-F9. Which is true?
