While there are, in fact, companies who do replace parts or do repairs caused by consumers, I do not expect that from a manufacturer.  I did receive the repaired unit back from Dallee, installed it and it is working fine.  I was very careful not to allow any contact with any random power source.  I am still quite certain that only one of the units that failed was the result of consumer error, but I am happy to see my semaphores once again moving in time with train movements and helping avoid those cornfield meets!

TCS has a no questions asked warranty on their decoders.

That is the best in the industry.

So, what I get out of your message is, you're blaming Dallee because you shorted out the modules and burned them up, and Dallee has the gall to want to charge you for repairing them.  Is that it?

In my 60-plus years of electronics experience I've never known of any company that offered to repair or replace an item free that was not defective when it left the factory and had been damaged by the end user, whether deliberate or accidental.

Update on Dallee Detector problems
Posted by B&Mbarn on Sunday, December 14, 2008 8:41 PM

The two Dallee occupancy detectors I was having problems with were returned to Dallee after the suggested trouble shooting by Dallee did not bring any results. It turns out that one or more components on the detectors were "fried", most likely by contact with a live wire of some sort. I was doing some rewiring of other systems in the vicinity of the units and although I was not aware of it, contact may have occurred at some point. Dallee does not consider this a warranty item and will be charging me $20 per unit for repairs and $15 for return shipping. The units' current msrp is $29.95 each. I am only having one unit repaired and will look for another supplier for any additional detectors I add to my layout.
