Life Like 0-8-0 heritage older model
Posted by tjm428 on Sunday, November 30, 2008 11:07 AM

I recently purchased an unused Heritage 0-8-0, I added sound and DCC, the problem is the older 0-8-0's do not have tender pick-up, short of buying a new tender, has anyone converted the older one to pick up either with shoes or thru the trucks

hminky (Harold Minkwitz) has a tutorial on his site describing how he used the copper centering springs of Kadee couplers to wipe the back sides of metal tire rims on a tender.  A soldered small wire lead up to the decoder from each wiper is what adds the capability offered by the wipers to his operation.  Unfortunately, I don't have his url handy, but if you do a search of his user name, find a post of his, he will have a link in the message that you can use.

David's suggestion is just as good.

The minkytrains.com site went away at least two months ago. He is now into On30.  Below is what you want. Harold is back to the Pacific Coast  Airlinerr site.

Put the links in your Favorites folder. Always check the sites before you suggest them.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
