All Electronics (http://www.allelectronics.com) has a couple of 3-6 RPM DC gearhead motors priced at $9 to $13.75 each, plus shipping.

I use a turntable motor out of an old microwave oven, but be very careful if you're not used to high voltage wiring. I put the motor in a metal box so only the rotating end sticks out. I wired it  to it's own plug, that way I keep the high voltage wires away from everything else. The speed is about right for a rotating sign and as I was discarding the microwave anyway it worked out pretty cheap.

I just glued a felt pad to the motor shaft and put a brass wheel on the bottom of the shaft that is used to rotate the sign. If anyone tries to stop the sign rotating it just slips on the felt pad and nothing burns out!

cheers

I used an electric clock motor (AC not DC). The shaft came off the second hand shaft and went up through the layout to become the sign post. Naturally whatever was on the signpost rotated one revolution a minute.

Could somebody tell me what motor would be best to rotate a sign on my layout.I would like to be able to adjust the speed so I could have it rotate very slow. Thanks
