Coach Wiring
Posted by alloboard on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 10:55 PM
I want to power an HO scale commuter coach. I need to insert internal lighting and DCC into the shell. I need to find an article on how to wire a passenger coach for head/tail, internal lights, and DCC using wires and contact wipers. I also want to do it in a very neat way unlike what like most manufacturers would do. When I open my coach for inspection or repairs, I don't want a permanently attatched wire that will run from the top to the bottom. A contact wiper will solve that problem. I want the procedure of getting power for lights and decoder done by using contact wipers. How or where can I find an article regarding how this project will be constructed?

Kalmback put put a book on DCC projects, which disscusses wiring lights into coaches. If you change the decoder, tjat should prove to be a good basis. probably this one

If the car is a Walthers, they can help with their info in the lighting kits. most of the light kits I've seen sit on a cieling attached to the car body. See some Walthers, and Spectrum Doodlebugs. If you have any, try opening up a Spectrum car. There are wipers there.

There's an article on the Wesport Terminal site that briefly mentions power pickup. A similar trick can be achieved with a Kadee centering spring.
