Express Programming????
Posted by nscaleboy77 on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 10:57 PM

Hi all,

I have a p rodigy express and an atlas gp-38 with the factory lenz decoder already installed, and an atlas gp40-2 with a digitrax DN163A0 decoder, installed by a friend from the LHS. Im trying to get the two consisted so that they can run the same speed together and im having a few issues. Frist of all, i can get the two to recognize that they are on the correct consist number. Such as i set the consist to 1 then program loco number 8113 and then loco 3 to the consist number. Then once i go back to my main screen press the consist number, the two engines run, but they run at different speeds. Also, theres no lights(whether or not i press the light button on the controller)?  Is there an issue with the LENZ vs digitrax? Or was something not programmed right?

thanks, any help would be great

Yeah, if you have the manual for the Digitrax decoder in the loco. Just follow the CV table (usually the right column) and you should be able to program your CV's with a breeze. If you have the older Express unit (like me) i've found you have to program everything on the program track (the unit doesn't like programing cv's on the main) Anymore questions let me know and i'll see if I can help out.

Try using the engine number of the front engine to control the headlight.  It should still turn it on and off, and then the consist's direction should control whether the front or back light is on.

You do have to speed-match the engines in a consist, particularly if they're way off when running separately.

thanks for the help, i was able to program the cv on the digitrax, however i noticed the options that they give you for either switcher, road switcher or main line loco seem to be somewhat wierd. Either too slow or too fast. I also heard that the MRC may have voltage issues with nscale, being that it gives out too much voltage for nscale to handle?

Im a newbie to dcc, just what i heard,Sigh [sigh]
