Funny, that was my wild guess. DA-SR is listed in DecoderPro  if that helps you along.  You can use the simulator as posted here somwhere to get the proper CV's.  CV 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 116, 117, 95 come to mind as would the speed table if resetting the decoder does not get the right start speed.

As you can see, My typeing is as bad as my programming. The NCE decoder is DA-SR

I have used a lot of these and all work wonderful. Thanks for the advice, will try the other CV's.

Best thing is to read the NCE manual re your decoder. By the way I can't find any reference to an NCE SD SR. SR are silent running but the SD reference does not show up anywhere, Even in DecoderPro (which would also be a good idea to get your hands on and feet wet).

Start by resetting decoder to defaults (CV30=2) and try it. Remember to turn off DC conversion. If not resolved then... CV time

I hate to do this to you but check page 29 here for reference and try setting the other speed CVs (3, 4, 5, 6) and see if that gets you a better response. Also, make sure CV29 is set for 28 step and not 14 (if your Roco supports it).

Good luck..

Decoder Problem
Posted by cliffsrr on Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:01 AM

I have a Bachmann loco that had a very noisy decoder. A short in the motor wired burnt it out. Replaced it with a NCE SD-SR decoder. Much better as far as quietness. But the loco starts too fast on the first position of the controller. I am using Roco ( Because it was the cheapest on E-Bay) so I don't have what you may call step 1. I have programed the CV2 start voltage at 0. Still too fast. Is there another CV that can remedy this action?

Thanks

Cliff
