Roundhouse 4-4-0 and a MRC decoder ( HELP )
Posted by sparkyjay31 on Friday, April 4, 2008 6:09 AM

This is a copy my post taken from the general discussion forum.  I'm hoping that there might be someone here that can help.

It finally happened.  After about 30 hours of running, it's happened.  Intermittent running, shutting down, the works.  Censored <img src=" border="0" width="34" height="15" />  I wish I knew then what I know now... Dunce <img src=" border="0" width="15" height="25" />

So what's going on?  I've taken it off the dcc and run it, without any issues on my dc layout.  It runs like a champ.  Sound and all.  Now I put it back on the dcc track, reset CV125 to the factory default settings, and I get the same issues.  It runs 6 inches, poops, farts, and snorts, runs a foot, and same thing.  Shuts down to where I have to tap it to wake it up again.  What the?????  Now I have a Spectrum 2-8-0 the runs just fine on the same track.  No issues at all.  So I know it's not the track or wiring, track voltage, etc...

Now what do I do?  Please don't say "Should have bought the micro-tsunami, or any another decoder but the MRC!".   Not to be a wise guy, but I already know that.  Unfortunately I'm only in the hobby about 6 months.  I did not know any better when I bought it.  Live and learn.

As of right now I'm stuck with a nice looking paper weight that makes sound.  Why does not resetting the decoder to the factory settings not work?  I followed the directions that came with the engine, to reset the CV's.  That includes resetting CV125 to zero.  It runs better, but still not correctly.  I'm very confused.

I've gotten word that I may need some kind of booster to reset the CV's?  If I program the CV's with my Power Cab, look at them again and they are correct, why does that not reset the decoder?  Arggggggggggggggggg...
