with the assumption that the decoder is factory installed -- no, you do not need to test the loco on DC, as this would have been done at the factory.

The LokSound decoder will run on DC power, but you don't have control over the sounds like you do when running DCC.

I always disable DC operation by reprogramming decoders that can run on DC, regardless of brand name, because my layout is DCC only.

I have read here that with some of the sound decoders you have to turn your DC power pack up to around 40-50 percent output before the locomotive will begin to move because of the extra voltage needed by the sound system.

HI. can you please give me some advice,I have just recivied my"ALLEGHENY" FROM MICRO MARK,well done you guys.

it would seem that you do not have to test run the loksound decoder on dc first, isthis the case, as i have always test run locos on dc before .

the this loco is for the heritage center on the FINGAL RAILROAD.

                      THANKS
