There is nothing wrong with the engine, I have all ready took it a part and is fine. Matching it to a sound engine, sounds more like it. Both my Blue Line GE AC 6000 and Proto 2 E-7 have about the same start speed.

I picked up a used but good Athearn SD-50. It has a Digitrax decoder in it as well. Start speed takes a good third of the throttle to get it moving. My other Athearn's take maybe 1/15th throttle if that.
I know the CV's can be changed, but the real question is why would you want a higher start speed?
At this point I am not worried about changing the start speed. The SD-50 is running on a branch line dragging 15 covered hoppers and that is about the max for the branch. Later when she moves to the main lines I will worry about matching the CV's to its dragging mate.
