Problem solved. Someone on the Soundtraxx Yahoo forum suggested I try selecting the engine with '041' instead of '41' as I had been. That worked. Apparently, the leading zero is significant and I didn't know it.
Thanks for your help,

Are you still changing the "other values"   or only the CV01 (41).

I'm still changing the other values: acceleration, deceleration, start voltage, dir bit, speed steps, DC Mode, speed table and long address.

Need help with PNP for Lifelike 0-8-0 - resolved

I installed a DSD-LL080LC (PNP for the Lifelike 0-8-0) and it won't accept programming.

After I installed the decoder and speaker, I programmed it on the programming track with a new engine number (41) and a couple other values and then placed it on the mainline.

It made the expected idling sounds but would not move or sound the whistle or bell.

I called Tony's (that's where I bought it) and he suggested I reset the decoder (CV30 to 2) on the programming track then try running the engine using the short address - 3.

I did that. The reset worked, the engine ran under the short address, the whistle blew and the bell rang.

So I programmed it again. Still didn't run or sound the whistle and bell.
Reset the decoder again and tested again - worked just fine.
I have repeated these last two steps several times and get the same result each time.

Other facts - I've installed another PNP for the 0-8-0 in another engine and programmed it in the same way as I've tried with this one and it works. I'm using an NCE Power Cab to program the engine. The programming track is a separate piece of track not connected to the layout.

Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong?

Thanks for any help,
jcopilot
