You can also find DT-400 qnd DT-400R (new & used) on Ebay for less than MSRP. Also if you can get a good price on a DT-400, you can send it in to Digitrax for upgrade to radio for $50. I purchased my DT-400 for programing, but now I use Decoder Pro. I sent my DT-400 to Digitrax to be converted to a DT-400R so I could have an additional radio throttle for the layout. Digitrax radio is simplex (one way communication) so you need to plug your radio throttle into the Loconet to aquire your locomotive. Once you aquire the locomotive you unplug from the Loconet and just operate by radio.
As suggested by others you will also need a UP-91 (Digitrax Radio receiver) for your Loconet. You will only need one UP-91 which can communicate with up to 10 radio throttles. This is the limit and purchasing an additional UP-91 will not expand your number of radio throttles in use at one time. You can use a combination of radio and teathered throttles on your layout.
Some time this year Digitrax is supposed to relaese a duplex radio throttle.
