hi jim.
thanks for the info, i wonder why companies still make fitting a decoder so difficult.
regards
When I put a decoder in one of these engines, I pulled off ALL the lamp wires, replaced the lamps with 14v bulbs, wired the head and tail lights to the FOF and FOR outputs, and wired the number boards to the F1 and F2 outputs. Then I programmed the decoder CVs to turn on both numberboards if the head and tail lights were activated with F0. With that much rewiring, I just hardwired an NCE decoder instead of using the 8-pin plug.

thank you, WSOR3801,I pulled the booths off and removed the number board lights and the rear light, the decoder responded and i have run the loco successfuly.
many thanks
On these the number board light causes problems. It is a 12v light, wired to a motor lead and somewhere else. It ends up causing a short in DCC operation. Take it out, and things should work.
The light could be added to the decoder, using the extra function leads on the front of the decoder.
