If you want to reset the decoder to factory default, do the following with your DCC system:
Place engine on main track and set CV49 to 128
CV50 to 255
CV56 to 113
As engine resets you will hear 3 toots. Test out the locomotive using address 3.
When I shut down a QSI engine I always do it with the 3 steps F9 sequences.

Hi Marty
It could be that the QSI decoder is picking up the starting alternating current of the System start up as a DC system switching direction. Try programing CV29 to disable DC control. When your system first powers up the QSI decoder has not picked up a comand packet yet and figures its on a DC controled layout and someone is toggling the direction switch until it realizes a DCC packet after a few seconds.

I pray every day I break even, Cause I can really use the money!
I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
Marty,
Make sure that your function "2" (F2) is disengaged.
I don't know what DCC controller you have but I have a NCE Power Cab. It has a LCD screen where I can see whether the first six functions are on or off. If you use the "horn" button, the sound only comes on as long as you depress the button. Once you release it, the sound stops. However, if you depress the "2" button to engage the sound, the horn will continue to sound until you depress "2" again.
Hope that helps...
Tom

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
Greetings all, I am relatively new at DCC control. I recently purchased a Proto 2000 engine and after a week or so of use I notice that when I first put the power on the engine's horn continuously goes off. I have to turn the power off and on at least twice before it stops. I have tried re-setting to default settings via the "wand". I'm not sure what to make of this - great engine, great sounds, great performance, but this is very curious and I'm debating whether there's an uncurable bug somewhere.
any insight would be greatly appreciated.
