Motor wonT reverse

I just bought an old Lionel Hustler to use to repower one of my Athearn units that I am detailing. The Lionel unit was not running very well when I got it and was quite dirty. I disassembled and cleaned it. The commutator is a flat disk with three slots, which I cleaned and lightly sanded and cleaned the three grooves. Now it won't run forward, only backward and is exactly the opposite direction of my other engines. Any suggestions. I tried reversing one of the wheel sets and it didn't help.

Sounds to me like you have the wires going to the motor backwards or have you regeared your other Loco's? Try reversing the wires to the motor. Did you draw wiring map of this loco before you took it apart? Also check to see if you have the drivetrain in a bind.

The wiring is all soldered in place, so I didn't disconnect it. I put everything back as it was. It could only go one way. I am beginning to think you may have something with the binding situation. I will dismantle it and reassemble. Thanks for the input.
