MTH HO DCS using the DCS Commander

<p>If you want to use your throttle to control switches, yes you need an AIU. I am not familiar with the DCS commander, so I dont know if it works with an AIU or if you need a TIU to connect to your AIU. The old 150W controller was not compatible with the AIU, or it wasnt user friendly, so I bought a TIU. If you want to use another means of controlling switches, no you dont need an AIU. </p> <p>Alternatively:</p> <p>For the less than the price of an AIU and TIU together you can get a DCC system. Instead of investing in advanced DCS equipment (for which there is only one manufacturer, because it is a proprietary system), get a DCC system. Newer MTH locomotives will run on DCC, and the best part is: many other companies make DCC equipment, so you have options. Running the pass through DCC function is not adviseable (take a look at the DC+DCC+DCS thread).</p>
