Using a Booster to Give Added Power in a Separate District
Posted by RicZ on Sunday, September 8, 2019 6:46 PM

I am building a DCC test track for use by our club at train shows to check patron’s purchases.  The track has a single track for each of 6 scales Z through O scale.  I am using a MRS Prodigy Express 2 to power the smaller scales, Z through HO, but I would like to use an 8amp booster to power the S and O scale tracks, as these tend to draw more current.  I will be using the Prod Express as the control, but since each track in powered separately, I am wondering if this is possible.

sure .. just split the output of the MRC, one part to the 'normal' tracks, the other part to the booster, then the S and O tracks   ...

i -assume- you will only have one loco in total on the tracks at any time ..

Will the system also be running a layout?  How big?  How many engines?

A booster will provide more power, but once again, if you are just running a single engine at a time, you really don't need that much power.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
