DCC Replacement board for Bachmann 70 ton Switcher
Posted by stocksj on Friday, June 25, 2010 6:27 AM

Hello,

I have a Bachmann GE 70ton Switcher which has a bad DCC board. The engine will run on DC. What would be a good replacement board for this engine since the DCC and electronics board are combined?

 Thanks

I don;t think anyone has a board in that form factor, so short of replacing it with another of Bachmann's rather limited decoders, you'll probably have to wire one in. Here's an example from TCS: http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Installation_Pictures/HO_Scale/Bachmann/Spectrum_GE70/Bachmman_Spectrum_GE_70.html  I would also add that you should clip off those yeloow objects attached across the motor wires, those are rf supression capacitors and will interfere with smooth running of a better quality decoder like the TCS.

What is the issue with the PC board other than being bad? I might have a PC board out of a 70 ton I do not need. The PC boards are rather simple.

Does anyone make a direct replacement.?  I know the problem is that sometimes they have the Head and Tail Light LED soldered on the board.

Not that I can find, and yes, the LEDs are on the circuit board, but the TCS install pictures show how to get around that.

The stock DC board won;t do any good, really, the OP has the DCC On-Board version so that board is a decoder. The TCS install shows one with a plain light board, but the overall location of wires and stuff should eb the same.

Edit: I take that back, I looked again and the one shown MUST be the DCC On-Board, there's too many chips on the circuit board for it to just be directional lights.
