I read a post a while back that said LEDs weren't suitable for passenger car lighting because the light was too directional. Is that because the LED ends are rounded, and act as a lens? If I used a dremel or piece of sandpaper to flaten the end of the LED, would the light disburse better? Anybody tried that?
No, that will not make the LED any brighter or spread the light more effectively. What you will need are multiple super-bright LEDs. The biggest problem you're going to encounter is LED color. If you don't mind having your cars look like they have fluorescent lighting, www.SuperBrightLEDs.com sells a light bar with multiple white LEDs on it that is rated for 12 Volts.
