I am currently putting a train around my son's room. I purchased the track yesterday and the clerk told me I may need to run some extra power leads ( about every 10 ft) to make the train operate around the whole room. Is this true and if so how should it be done and with what type of wire?
With 44 feet of track - definitely you will need additional power feeders. You didn't mention what type of trains - HO? Lionel? Large Scale? If the length of wire to the track connection point isn't very long - 10-15 feet, for HO and smaller you can get away with some #18 wire, like speaker wire. For Lionel and larger trains you should probably use a bit heavier wire, like #16 or #14. If you have to run a long distnace from the power pack to the track points, 20 feet or more, in HO step up to the #16.
