How do I get the weight off of the frame to accsess the motor???

I had tried that. After posting I took a pry bar (small screwdriver really) to it and it came right off

As you've already discovered, the Athearn BB units just pull straight up and the weight comes off. Sometimes they need persuasion.

I have a couple of Athearn RTR F7-A's that have a small machine screw that holds the weight in place.
