You need to go to Keystone crossings.com and sign up for PRR-Talk where you can ask experts your questions. Everyone from the president of the PRRT&HS through Bill Volkmer are on there and will help anyone.

Ancient and unreliable memory suggests that either MR or RMC ran such an article. Problem is, I still think of a 1977 article as "pretty recent" so I cannot begin to assist you in finding it.
Now for the painful part. I bought an X-23 at a swap meet, a brass model. New in the box but previously owned. The guy wanted $9 for it. I think I talked him down to $7. Brass! We won't even talk about what used brass locomotives used to sell for ........

Hello Andy,

MODEL RAILROADER published an article on building an X23 from those parts, "Pennsylvania class X23 boxcar. " by John Nehrich, in the June 1986 issue, page 70. You can order photocopies of articles from out-of-print back issues online from customerservice@kalmbach.com, or by calling 800-533-6644.

Happy holidays,

Andy
