Bob--
GN aquired its E7s in 1945 and 1947, and most of them continued in service through the BN merger and the inception of Amtrak. Although there were times when some of the units were assigned "-A" or "-B" letter suffixes in their road numbers (to designate units in sets of two), all of the GN units were E7As.
The most common paint scheme on the GN E7s was the one duplicated on the Broadway Limited models. Some of the E7s received the simplified green-and-orange paint scheme (without yellow stripes) during or after 1962, but none received Big Sky Blue paint.

The GN switched to the orange and green after WWII, around 1946/1947. I don't know if the GN had any E7 b's.

I just purchased a Broadway Limited GN E-7A and am starting my layout.
Can anyone tell me what years the GN used the E-7A's , and if they ever
used an E-7B unit ?
Also can someone give me the timeline on when GN switched from the
"green" heavyweights, to the Orange/Green Empire Builder paint scheme
on their passenger cars ?
Thanks for your help.
