Now that the question of "why?" has been settled, does anyone have an answer, now that he's brought it up, I'm curious too.

This is an age old response from those who do not observe the prototype or excuse not to model brake rigging. A lot depends on the height of the layout, but with the current trend being higher than in the past, much of the rigging DOES show esp vertical brake levers.

WVModeler may be building a competition model, or he may have an eye-level layout. Two instances where the underframe detailing will be visible, and should be modelled.

Help Please, Anyone, I'm Trying To Use Details West Parts 235-182, 235-183 & BS-1020 To Detail Boxcar Underframes, Can Anyone Give Me An Illustration Or Direct Me To An Illustration  Of Underframe Detailing Using VERTICAL BRAKE LEVERS.
