An Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER) lists every railroad with equipment in interchange. It lists every car, number, type dimensions and other information. in addition it lists all interchnages, number of engines, offices and other information. The caveat is if the railroad owns no equipment it may not be listed. They can be had on the internet fairly cheaply as the industry gets a new one every three months and generally throws them away. They also buy them by the hundreds so they are out there.
