Amtrak California cars

I'm looking for any info on Amtrak California Cars. Modeling Central California, and have found Amtrak California engines (which I have yet to see on the San Joaquins) - but nothing on the cars. Actually surprised Walther's hasn't come out with it yet. Looking for blue prints, car type, consist, etc.

Overland Models has previously released the Amtrak California cars in brass and are planning to rerun the cars. Currently brass is your only option. good luck modeling, Ch

A reasonable bet could be kitbashing superliner cars and the Athearn bi-levels.

I would put good money on that either Walthers or Athearn will come out with the California cars now that both companies have locos in the new and old California schemes.

Here's a questions, since i don't live near that line and can't find it elsewheres, what is a standard layout of a train out there? Number and order of coaches, sleepers, ect.

There are no sleepers for the California cars. There are only coahces, coach cab, lounge and diners. Trains typicaly run 4-6 cars depending on needs.

It is highly unlikely that Walthers or Athearn will produce California Cars as the market appeal is just to limited to justify the expense of steel tooling to produce a car. I am working on releaseing California Cars in about two years in Resin Kit form. Features include Interior, Factory paint, Lighting, and passengers. The economics of my situation dictates I will be able to give comprible performance to Walthers and Athearn for about half of their highly inflated RTR prices.

The best bet is to custom paint a set of HI-LEVEL cars or kitbash
for the TALGO set. I am really sure that SOMEBODY will release a set
soon. Alot pretty trainsets out in CA. I model the Eastern coastline and
do not collect the CA. editions. But they are still pretty trains.

I am near the Amtrak station in Sacramento often enough that I could take some notice next time I'm out there--we mostly see Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin Valley trains, most, so far as I can tell, are 3 or 4 coaches with a snack car--the Capitol Corridor, kind of like Chicago's Metra trains, don't turn around--they have a cab in the back of the passenger car and run the route east in reverse!
