BRC interchanges w/ IHB and EJ&E

Check out the Atlas website. it would seem the BRC C424 is pretty accurate apart from the dynamic brake and the wide fuel tank

I'm modelling the same but in the late 1980's-early 1990's. did you know that Atlas are to release an Alco C424 in BRC colours in December. I don't know yet if the cab steps will be correct or the cab profile. I've just finished kitbashing number 602, as well. Typical.

See if your bookstore/lhs has a copy of the Jul-Aug-Sep 2003 The Railroad Press (TRP) magazine. It is all about Chicago with lots of good pictures. The centerspread of the magazine has a great 3 color map of Cicago with the fold running thru Hayford crossing.

To answer your question, the IHB ran a north-south segment of track near Harlem ave that connected with the west end of the Clearing yard. Probably every road that came to Chicago had some connection with BRC. It would be just as likely for ATSF to deliver cars & then pick up another set on it's way back to Corwith. Connecting tracks were built to allow for connections at either end of the Clearing yard. A funny story is the way that before WW2 the track would go thru the middle of Midway Airport. Good thing there was some empty land along 55th street to allow for a reroute of the track. The diesel shop for BRC was just west of Pulaski road. You could see almost any unit from any RR getting service there & sometimes find mech reefers getting refueled there. It's a fun road to watch operate.

I'm interested in modeling the portions of the Chicago's south side and extreme northwest Indiana. Of particular interest to me are the EL, C&O, Monon, Grand Trunk, IHB and EJ&E of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Because it seems logical to include the Belt Railway of Chicago since I am modeling several of its' owners, I need to know where cars from BRC rails were interchanged with IHB and EJ&E. In my September 1966 Trains, a drawing of Clearing Yard showed a track designated for many railroads, including IHB and EJ&E. Did BRC deliver these particular cars somehere else in Chicagoland? If someone knows, I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
