New Haven (NH) logo

Does anyone know when the New Haven RR switched from the script style logo to the big block NH logo on their engines? Was it a rapid transition or did both logo styles co-exist for some time? Thanks.

1954, the first Matter/McGinnis block "NH" logo came out on the EP-5's...

It wasn't a rapid transition on locomotives... Some units retained script heralds (and green/gold [road units] or warm orange/green [road & yard switchers] until the end in 1969... Some never got red-orange and black. Some ended up getting the later Alpert scheme instead.

Any specific unit types or even unit numbers you are interested in?

The paint style and block logo followed Pat McGinnis to Boston & Maine, with blue replacing the red-orange.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

It was Altas's H16-44 in n-scale that prompted me to ask. Altas has made it in both green and orange with script and black and orange with block and I was trying to decide which version would be more accurate for my layout. It's freelanced and is loosely set in the late 50's. The NYC is the primary railroad, but I'm planning on having the NH make appearances for interchange or with track rights.

Either scheme will do for the late 1950's.

590,596,599 wore green/orange until the end.

591,592,593,595,597,598 wore McGinnis -- figure post summer 1956.

594 had a funky hybrid scheme of green/orange with a small "NH" on the cab like the Alpert scheme.

596 had a major engine failure in 1958 and never ran again, and 590 died in 1960.
