Barry,

The most common (and most available on the market) would be the following:

Switchers:
  • 0-6-0 (Proto 2000 - would need to letter/number an undecorated version yourself)
  • 0-8-0 (Proto 2000)

  • Freight:
  • 2-8-2 Mikado (Athearn, BLI, IHC, and Trix)
  • 4-8-2 Mohawk (brass)

  • Tom

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.

    Hmmm...
The last of the NYC steamers ran in 1957. If you are in the east, you would be better to run early diesel.

    Depending upon where you are...
2-8-2 would be the most common.
    0-6-0 could also be used.
Yes, a Mohawk could be used but the most likely would still be the 2-8-2.

I'm building a Pennsy layout circa 1955. But.........
I want to run in the occasional NYC freight into the yard.
What freight steamers did NYC have running in 1955 (ish)?
    Thanks [8D]
