Katy yellow boxcars

A friend asked me to paint an Accurail double-door 40' boxcar for the Katy, in their yellow scheme. A Google search only found some models. All of them had the entire carbody painted yellow, with black trucks. However, the directions for the Champ decals state the carbody sides and ends are yellow, but the roof is supposed to be some version of boxcar red. Did the Katy originally paint its boxcar roofs bcr, and if so, when did they start painting the entire carbody yellow? Also, does anyone know what the number series would be for cars similar to Accurail's kit? Thank you for your help.

bob i asked another club member today and he said that some of the roofs were silver colored.

i gotta remember to ask bout the number series.

have you tried contacting the katy historical society?

got some more info for ya. the sloan yellow boxcar roofs were silver still trying to get the road numbers
