hey everyone.
My first post here, anyways
What would be good colors to use for an HO Scale NS Primer Dash 9? The ones with the tan body and black underframe. And what decals should I use?
Thanks!
Andy

Greetings Andy, and welcome aboard. Regarding the NS, or any engine in primer, they would have few, if any markings, thus there would be no need for decals. Both GE and EMD seem to be delivering quite a few locomotives in this manner, for painting either by the railroad itself, or a contractor. Should you want to run a primer painted unit in your trains, you can buy many body shells undecorated. You can then paint the shells in a flat grey or possibly brown color. Plenty of paints are available.

Most of the primer locos I have seen have some small red lettering in various locations. I've never taken the time to look and see what they say, so I can't help you there. Most of it is invisible from much distance at all, so smaller decals could probably be omitted. I don't know of a source for the road numbers that are sprayed on, sorry. Looks like the number boards use regular numbers, might be able to get those decals from someone else that is an NS modeler.
All of these "primer queens" I have seen seem to have a green tinge to them. Maybe a gray with olive drab added, or maybe there is a military camoflage color that matches. These links show the color I see the most of:

There was a thread somewhere on this site in the last week or so on this same subject, there may be better help there on a color match. I have thought of doing my C40-9W in primer, but I really want the NS black and white, plus I already bought the decals!
Good luck
Good Luck, Morpar
