GE EVO

For those who might be interested, GE's EVO engine presently is a 12 cyl. 4400 hp engine. On a test bed right now is the New EVO engine 16 cyl. 6450 hp. Haven't seen plans on the design of a body for this new engine, don't know how much will change to fit it.

Interesting. The AC4400s and C44-9s had a 16 cyl engine and 4000 HP. The new GEVO ES44s have a 12 cylinder because of reduced emmissions. I'm surprised GE is experimenting w/ 6,000+ HP considering the AC6000CW didn't sell too well.

I think the 6000 just came out at the wrong time, just before tier 3 became the watch word. We'll see I guess if they do make the transition from test to production.

Of corse, maybe by now RRs actually might want 6000+ HP.

I find it odd that they would try for 6000 HP again. Niether the GE AC6000CW or the SD90MAC-H sold very well, and railroads that have them such as UP have alreasy given the 90MAC-Hs back and the 6000CWs are next. It's to bad, but they vibrate apart, ride rough, and guzzle fuel.
