The Library of Congress' website has thousands of 1930s and 1940s photos on it; the online exhibit is only a taste. I've searched the site several times over the past few years, and always come up with something new.

I found this on another (non-train) newsgroup.

I don't know if it's been posted here before, but I thought it was interesting.

It's an on-line exhibition of color photos from 1939 to 1943. Some even are train related. For people modeling this time period (or close to it) I thought these were a really cool resource to allow you to see the styles and colors of the time period.

I know sometimes when I think of that era, I almost think the world was in black and white!
