I looked at photos in the Morning Sun book Pullman Standard by James Kinkaid.

In the white painted area on the left "NO ROOF WALK" on the right "EXCESS HEIGHT CAR over the reportingmark/number

Centered on the lower part of the ends is information on how the car is equipped which varied.

Several cars had "TYPE E(?) COUPLER ? SHANK(?)" on the 4th rib from the bottom, something about the wheels on the 3rd rib, and some letters and numbers on the 2nd rib and the bottom rib.

Another car with half the end hidden had "? WHEELS CLASS U(?)" on the 4rd rib, "86 x 12" on the 3rd rib, coupler info on the 2nd rib, and it appears nothing on the bottom rib.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Paul, I posted an end photo of a Cotton Belt 86 footer on the Cotton Belt Yahoo Group. I went there this afternoon and I could not make out the lettering on the end ribs. The SSW reporting marks were at the top of the car on the excess height white band. Photo was from 1999-2000.

86' hi-cube data

I'm freelancing an 86' hi-cube boxcar, and while there are plenty of pictures available showing the car sides with the data clearly visible, I'm having a difficult time finding out what should be printed on the end panels. I know the top area has "Excess Height Car" and "No Running Boards." What else would be appropriate and/or regularly found on the end? Any detailed photos or diagrams would be helpful.
