Very interesting. The apparently small driver diameter would likely have exacerbated the problem of the restrictions in the steam passages too, since the piston (and valve) speeds would have been pretty high in order to attain even 100 mph. It's too bad no one had the foresight to preserve it.

If you check out the national symbol on the nose it probably didn't survive WWII

Jim, if you check the link, evidently the loco was cut up in the 1950s in the U.S.
And as far as that symbol goes, my wife picked up a brass railway lantern, stamped with the same symbol and a swastika, at a garage sale for about a buck. It's fairly small, and as I recall, quite boxy looking. She's got it stashed away somewhere, so I can't give you much more of a description.

I think one of the German model RR companies makes/made an HO model of this, but can' t remember who right offhand.

Oh, and I think it's a model by Fleishmann, model 4171 or digital model 6 4171.
