I do have some photos that show some of these locos (the L105s, not the L97s) hauling passenger trains, as they were equipped for it. Try this site for more photos:

It has photos of both classes and some other information. For the L105 locos, there was an article in the November 1982 Mainline Modeler with drawings and other information.

Ian,
All the info I can find says the Challengers were used for freight, purchased in 1942 and scrapped in 1951. During that time the D&RGW used mostl;y 4-8-4's for their mainline passenger trains, sometimes doubleheading them.

I've got a D&RGW Challenger nad was wondering what stock it would have hauled. Was it primarily a freight hauler or did it ever haul passenger cars.
