D & H Ilmenite traffic
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 17, 2005 9:13 PM
Anybody know where the D&H ilmenite ore trains (1944-1989) from tahawus, n.y. wound up going? the original demand was based on the need for titanium armor during WW2 but the mineral was also heavily used in the production of paint. my guess would be allentown or somewhere else in the steel belt. anybody have any specific destinations?

Used to see ilimenite cars at Raleigh WV back in the late 70s and into the 80s. IIRC they were carrying magnetite, used in coal cleaning plants.

Hope this helps.
