I bought a three pack of Katos SSW 70 ton ASF cocver hopper. Kato calls the color Olive. Is this color correct? I have tried to locate information and pictures of it via Internet without succes.
Can anyone help me?

Olive Green? Only covered hoppers from SSW/SP i've witnessed were a light grey, which could vary due to age and condition and material carried.

I found a photograph on
Walther's page for the cars
. It is an unusual color for SP family hoppers. I do not know if this is correct. Perhaps someone will.

Growing Up On The Gulf Coast,I Remember Seeing Some Espee/Cotton Belt Hoppers That Had Green and Yellow Streaks On Them From Being In Sulphur Service In And Around The Wharton/Boling/Newgulf,Texas Area. But I Don't Remember Seeing Olive Green Hopperr Cars.Could Be Just An Underdeveloped Photo From The Catalog.

I have posted a picture of te car at my website. Check out
http://hem.bredband.net/drgw/pics/kato_covered_hoppers.jpg
. The Rio Grande car on the top is in Kato original color. The other one is repainted to be "correct".
You can clearly see the olive color of the SSW car. Was it ever in this color or is this a miss from Kato as with the "to dark"Rio Grande?

I have not been able to find evidence of any SSW hoppers painted in that scheme. However, that does not necessarily mean that this scheme did not exist.
Here is the Cotton Belt
hopper series
that has SSW 77050 in it. Unfortunately, there is very little information about it. Here is the
main Cotton Belt Hopper page
.
You might try to see if you can find anything on this
Southern Pacific colors page
.
