Actually the "Chief" is the better train from a modeler's point of view. Prior to and into WWII it had 4-8-4s from LA to La Junta or KC and Hudsons on into Chicago. During WWII FTs were added to the mix and it was an early asignment for the PAs and eventually got F-3s and F-7s. Something for everyone?

from rlandry6 original post "What/which locos were actually used on the Chief?"

Your topic heading refers to the Super Chief and this line to the Chief? Which train are you asking about. Those were two separate trains-- similar route, some differences in equipment....

Kato is releasing the correct cars for a consist from the 1950s to the end of service. And the F7s are perfect to lead this train on any layout. I wish somebody would release plastic Palms and Regals in HO. It dosen't appear that Kato is producing any Pine sleepers for this run.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's just prior to Amtrak, FP45's 100-108 in the red and silver warbonnet scheme and F45's 1920-1939 (equipped with steam and signal lines) in the freight blue and yellow saw service on the Super Chief/El Capitan. The FP45's were always in the lead.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

With all of the different N scale Santa Fe locos with the warbonnet scheme currently available, what's the big deal about Kato's upcoming release of the Santa Fe set? What/which locos were actually used on the Chief?
