Are not the Front Runners 2-axle? I have not seen any in years. I suspect most, if not all, are retired.

ericsp, yes you are right, they are 2 axle (4 wheels lol), oh well, looks like Walthers wont be getting my custom on those models unless they were running until the late 90's/2000 era

I am fairly sure they were still around in that time era. Intermodal has never been much of interest to me so I do not pay much attention to intermodal cars. There might be someone who knows for sure over on the railroad forum.

Hello,

According to the January 2005 "Official Register of Railway Equipment," TTX still operates 479 Front Runner cars (TTOX reporting marks) in the number series 145169-146094. That roster includes exactly 1,000 fewer such cars than there were in the April '95 ORER, but they haven't completely disappeared.

So long,

Andy

While the TTOX Front Runners may still be rostered, they are exceedingly rare in service. They fell out of favor after 45 and 48' trailers became the norm.

Their light weight and rigid wheel-base, made them a pain in train service. I had one litterally disintigrate on me after it was placed in my train wrong. Too much trailling tonnage brought it off the rail and we dragged it sideways for nearly a half mile, until another crew spotted it.

I have not seen any of the new ones in service yet, but then we deal with mainly stacks in my terminal.
