More on Amtrak Consists
Posted by TomDiehl on Friday, September 23, 2005 7:53 PM
After having ridden Amtrak from Philadelphia to Seattle, I gathered some information on the consists.

Pennsylvanian (I rode from Philly to Pittsburgh) One P42DC, 5 Amfleet Coaches, one Cafe Car

Capitol Limited (Pittsburgh to Chicago) Two P42DC's, One Baggage car, three coaches, one Lounge Cafe, one Dining Car, three Sleeping Cars all Superliners

Empire Builder (Chicago to Spokane) In order: Two P42DC's, one Baggage Car, one Transition Sleeper, two Sleeping Cars, one Dining Car, one Coach, one Coach-Baggage, one Lounge-Cafe, one Coach, one Coach Baggage, one Sleeping Car all Superliners.

After the split in Spokane, the Lounge -Cafe on back went to Portland, the rest to Seattle.

Got interrupted before I finished the post.

The Empire Builder from Spokane to Seattle had two P42DC's, different numbers than the Chicago to Spokane portion. It seems they added another Sleeping Car from what Passengerfan reported in July.

The freshly refurbished Superliners on the Empire Builder had a new version of the striping pattern. The stripes looked the same as the Phase 4, but didn't have "Superliner" in script over the center of the stripes. Instead "Superliner" was in white block letters at each end of the blue stripe. The car type was to the left of the door and the new Amtrak emblem was to the right.
